This week we’ll learn more about the laws that affect media content, including libel, obscenity, privacy, and shield laws.
On Tuesday, you’ll work on your own to complete the News University exercise described in the video I emailed you. I think you’ll enjoy this interactive exercise and find the case studies it presents to be intriguing. Follow the directions in the screencast I sent to get started with NewsU and complete the course.
On Thursday, we’ll watch part of the documentary “This Film is Not Yet Rated.” As I said in my email, it contains some pretty explicit content, so let me know if you prefer an alternative assignment for that day. I think it contains an interesting critique of the movie rating system and a good set of questions about our media culture…so I feel it’s worth watching. I’ll be interested to see what you think!
